The experience
The MAV is a museum dedicated to traditional Aosta Valley crafts. Opened in Fénis in 2009, and renovated in 2022, the MAV houses more than a thousand objects including artifacts of use (17th-20th centuries) and sculptures (13th-20th centuries) from public and private collections. The itinerary investigates the close relationship between territory and craftsmanship, between the craftsman and the material he molds. These works constitute an invaluable heritage for those who decide to embark on the journey of roots: the ancient crafts, the most authentic way of life, and the customs of the people of Aosta Valley are depicted here.
A special visit for root travelers
Take part in a tactile guided tour designed for adults and children to provide a very precise mapping of the Aosta Valley mountain areas, ancient crafts and traditions: for you, traveler of roots, it is going to be a full immersion in Aosta Valley where it is possible to touch and experience the artisan techniques of the region.
The first section presents the exhibition of the entire Brocherel Collection whose objects are producers of memory. The visit then continues with the form, the one that shapes the objects in the encounter between the craftsman and the material, and the gesture, that is, the pure manual skill of which the craftsmen are the bearers, a unique intangible heritage of knowledge, without which there would be no object. The new exhibition concludes with a look at the avant-garde, at the ability of creation to go beyond its time, and at beauty, as an individual, objective or social aesthetic judgment of a set of objects.
